EACC To Establish Integrity Clubs in SchoolsTo Harness Values

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has announced plans to establish integrity clubs in schools across the country to help instil ethical values in Kenyan youth.

According to EACC Chairman Eliud Wabukala, the initiative is part of the commission's efforts to promote a culture of integrity and prevent corruption in the society. He said that the integrity clubs will provide a platform for students to learn about ethics, integrity, and anti-corruption through interactive sessions, debates, quizzes, and competitions.

Wabukala said that the EACC has partnered with the Ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission, and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to develop a curriculum and training materials for the integrity clubs. He said that the EACC will also train teachers and club patrons on how to facilitate the activities and mentor the students.

The EACC Chairman said that the integrity clubs will target students from primary to secondary level, and will be rolled out in phases starting from January 2024. He said that the EACC aims to reach at least one million students in the first year of the program.

Wabukala said that the integrity clubs will complement the existing civic education programs in schools, and will help to nurture a generation of ethical leaders and citizens. He said that the EACC believes that investing in the youth is the best way to fight corruption and achieve the vision of a corruption-free Kenya.

He urged the stakeholders in the education sector, the parents, and the students to support the initiative and join hands with the EACC in the war against corruption. He said that the EACC is committed to fulfilling its mandate of combating and preventing corruption, economic crimes, and unethical conduct in the public and private sectors.
