Ruto and Gachagua Boost Kimalel Goat Auction with Ksh.15 Million Purchase


President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made a significant gesture of support for Kenyan farmers on Thursday, purchasing Ksh.15 million worth of goats at the annual Kimalel goat auction in Baringo County. Their presence and substantial purchase injected enthusiasm and financial boost into the event, highlighting the government's commitment to the livestock sector and the cultural significance of the Kalenjin people.

"We are here today to support the Kimalel goat auction, which is not just an economic activity but also a cultural event that showcases the rich heritage of the Kalenjin people," President Ruto stated, acknowledging the event's dual importance. His deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the government's dedication to promoting the livestock sector: "The government is committed to promoting the livestock sector, and we will continue to invest in initiatives that improve the quality and productivity of our goats."

The Kimalel goat auction is a renowned event that attracts goat breeders and buyers from across Kenya. This year's auction saw over 3,000 goats on offer, with President Ruto and Deputy Gachagua purchasing a combined 1,000 goats at a price of Ksh.15,000 each. Governor of Baringo County, Stanley Kiptis, expressed his gratitude for the President and his Deputy's presence: "We are grateful to the President and his Deputy for their presence at the auction, and we believe that their visit will boost the profile of the Kimalel market and attract more buyers in the future." Local farmers also shared their appreciation, with one commenting, "I am happy that the President has come to see our goats. This will give us a better market for our animals and improve our livelihoods."
