Don't Blame Azimio for High Living Costs, Raila Declares

Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition, has firmly rejected accusations that his party bears responsibility for the current economic hardship in Kenya, particularly the high cost of living. Speaking during a visit to Awendo Constituency, Migori County, Raila emphasized that the onus of tackling this crucial issue falls squarely on the shoulders of the government in power, not the opposition.

"The cost of living is not the responsibility of the Opposition; it is the responsibility of the government in power," Raila declared, his voice resonating with the crowd gathered. He further pointed out that Azimio actively raised the issue of high living costs during recent bipartisan talks but unfortunately, no consensus was reached.

Raila's statement comes amidst rising public dissatisfaction with the escalating cost of basic necessities in Kenya. From fuel and cooking oil to flour and transportation, prices have skyrocketed in recent months, squeezing the budgets of ordinary Kenyans and sparking widespread frustration.

This frustration has often manifested in accusations directed towards both the current administration and the opposition, with some blaming Azimio for failing to effectively hold the government accountable for its economic policies. "We tabled [the high cost of living] as one of the main agendas during the bipartisan talk, but unfortunately, we failed to agree," Raila acknowledged, before adding, "But that does not mean we should be blamed for the government's inaction."

He further emphasized Azimio's commitment to advocating for the Kenyan people and pushing the government to address their concerns. "We will continue to stand with the people and fight for their rights," Raila vowed, "We will not rest until Kenyans can afford to put food on their tables and live with dignity."
