Kenyan Man Poses as Supreme Court Judge, Rakes in Bribes Before Facing Justice

In a brazen act of impersonation and fraud, a Kenyan man has been arraigned in court for masquerading as a Supreme Court Judge and swindling unsuspecting individuals out of their money with promises of influencing court cases.

Oduor Leakey Amolloh, the accused, reportedly disguised himself as Justice William Ouko, a prominent figure in Kenya's highest judicial body. Using a mobile phone number falsely identified as Justice Ouko's, Amolloh allegedly contacted victims and offered to manipulate ongoing legal proceedings in exchange for bribes.

The scheme unraveled when Justice Ouko himself received reports about a phone number bearing his name being used for fraudulent purposes. He promptly alerted the authorities, leading to Amolloh's arrest.

"Justice William Ouko, Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya received information that a mobile number 0728 494 058 purporting to be his mobile number was being used to defraud members of the public in the pretext that he could influence public employment," the Kenyan Judiciary stated in a press release.

Amolloh appeared before the Kiambu Senior Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday, December 15, 2023. The prosecution requested a three-day remand to complete investigations, which the court granted.

This incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of Kenya's judicial system to impersonation scams and the potential for such fraud to erode public trust in the judiciary.

"This is a serious matter that undermines the integrity of the judiciary and the rule of law," said a spokesperson for the Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association. "We urge the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice."

The case against Amolloh serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution when dealing with sensitive legal matters. Individuals are advised to verify the identities of individuals claiming to be legal professionals and to avoid engaging in any transactions that appear suspicious.

The outcome of Amolloh's case remains to be seen, but it is a case that will undoubtedly be closely watched by Kenyans seeking justice and fair play within their judicial system.
