Ruto Faces Erosion of Support as Kenya Kwanza Loyalists Lose Faith, Tifa Poll Shows

A new poll by Tifa has revealed a worrying trend for President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration, with support among its initial base gradually eroding. The survey, conducted between December 5th and 10th, indicates a decline in confidence amongst Kenya Kwanza supporters, raising questions about the government's ability to deliver on its promises.

According to the poll, 58% of Kenyans who voted for Kenya Kwanza in the August elections now believe the government is performing poorly, compared to 32% who expressed satisfaction. This marks a significant shift from just two months ago, when 65% of Kenya Kwanza voters approved of the administration's performance.

"There is a clear sense of disillusionment among Kenya Kwanza supporters," said Tifa CEO Maggie Mutahi. "Their initial optimism seems to be fading, and the government needs to take urgent steps to address their concerns."

The poll delves deeper into the specific reasons behind this decline in faith. When asked about their top concerns, 42% of Kenya Kwanza voters cited the rising cost of living, while 37% expressed worry about the government's handling of the economy. Additionally, 28% raised concerns about perceived unfulfilled campaign promises.

These findings were echoed by verbatim comments from respondents. One supporter remarked, "We were promised quick solutions to the high cost of living, but things seem to be getting worse." Another lamented, "I voted for Kenya Kwanza because they promised change, but I haven't seen any yet."

The poll also sheds light on the regional breakdown of dissatisfaction. Notably, Kenya Kwanza's strongholds in the Rift Valley and Central Kenya regions are showing signs of wavering support. In the Rift Valley, 45% of Kenya Kwanza voters now express disapproval of the government's performance, compared to 28% just two months ago. Similarly, in Central Kenya, the disapproval rate has jumped from 22% to 38%.

These findings pose a significant challenge for President Ruto and his administration. With disillusionment spreading among their initial base, the government must swiftly address public concerns and deliver on its promised reforms. Failure to do so could further erode Kenya Kwanza's support and jeopardize their long-term political prospects.
