Ruto Determined to Improve Kenya's Challenges Despite Difficulties

President William Ruto has acknowledged the numerous challenges facing Kenya, including the rising cost of living, but has vowed to work tirelessly to improve the situation. Addressing the nation in a joint media interview from State House, Nairobi, on Monday, December 18, 2023, Ruto declared his unwavering commitment to making things better for Kenyans.

“I have every intention to keep it here until things change,” Dr. Ruto declared, emphasizing his dedication to tackling the issues Kenyans face. He acknowledged the financial constraints many Kenyans are experiencing due to the spiraling cost of living but asserted that external factors beyond his control exacerbate the situation.

Specifically, Ruto cited the global rise in fuel prices as a major contributor to the increasing cost of basic goods in Kenya. He explained that even if other factors within Kenya's control remained constant, the external fuel price hike would still necessitate adjustments in domestic prices.

Despite these challenges, President Ruto expressed optimism about the future and outlined his administration's plans to address the cost of living issue. He emphasized the importance of boosting food production through initiatives like the Hustler Fund and Bottom-Up economic model, aiming to make Kenya more self-sufficient in essential commodities.

“We are determined to ensure that Kenya’s tax system responds to the needs of the economy,” Ruto stated, announcing plans for reforming the tax system to make it “fairer” and place a greater burden on wealthier individuals. He believes this will not only generate additional revenue for government programs but also promote greater equity within the country.

President Ruto also urged Kenyans to remain patient and persevere through the current difficulties. He assured them that his administration is working diligently to find solutions and that better days are ahead. “Keep on keeping on things will be better,” he encouraged, acknowledging the hardship many Kenyans face but expressing confidence in his government's ability to improve the situation.

President Ruto's address comes amidst growing public concern about the rising cost of living and other challenges facing Kenya. While his acknowledgment of the difficulties and his optimism for the future may reassure some Kenyans, others remain skeptical, demanding concrete actions and demonstrable progress in addressing the issues that impact their daily lives. The coming months will be crucial in determining whether Ruto's promises translate into tangible improvements for the Kenyan people.

President Ruto's determination to improve Kenya's situation is evident, but the challenges his administration faces are significant. Whether he can successfully address the rising cost of living and other pressing issues remains to be seen. The Kenyan people will be watching closely and holding their leader accountable for his promises.
